Last summer, I found myself standing at the base of Tyndall Glacier in Colorado with ice pick in hand, and crampons on. The path ahead looked steep and unforgiving.
My family started the climb at 5 a.m., and by 7, we’d made it around Emerald Lake. But by noon, the weather began to turn, and the route we’d planned became too risky in current conditions. Turning back wasn’t an option, so we had to think fast, change course, and find a new way up.
And we did. Twelve hours after we started, we made it back to the car exhausted, but proud. We had just completed what was easily one of my most challenging ascents. That cold beer at the bottom was the best I’ve ever had.
Funny thing is, that climb reminded me a lot of building ESSG.
This year marks 20 years since we started this company. We began with no clients or employees, just a vision and a willingness to take the first and next step, even when the path wasn’t always clear.
Like that climb, it hasn’t always been easy. We've hit rough terrain and had to adjust our path more than once. But with a dedicated team that thinks critically, supports one another, and shares a common vision, we've continued to move forward.
Over the years we’ve helped our customers scale smarter. We’ve expanded our service to all 50 states, and surpassed a service milestone of 1 million employees paid.
We aren’t at our peak yet – we’re just getting started.
